Hinduism:
An Overview

Introduction

Introduction

Non-harm (ahimsa) stands at the core of Hindu ethics while reincarnation supports a philosophy of interconnection and oneness—souls move from body to body across eons so that all human beings have, at some point in time, been every other kind of living being. These core teachings offer strong protection for all species and require choosing vegan. Hindu stories depict nonhuman animals as powerful and sacred—some are gods, others are closely associated with gods, still others are sacred. Nonetheless, some Hindus engage in animal sacrifice, but gods and heroes model activism on behalf of the downtrodden, and contemporary Hindu animal activists offer hope for change.
